The Blademage is a base class that draws significant inspiration from various animes. The art of blademagic on Kaylira was developed by the High Elves, though in a similar fashion to Sorcerers, many have stumbled onto the path by instinct.
Blademages rely on special rituals and investing their arcane magics into their weapons and armor, making them an extension of their own essence. In addition to such invested weapons being integral components to most blademagic, such altered gear gains many exceptional qualities. By 10th level, a Blademage's invested weapon has an increased enhancement bonus of +2 to attack rolls, a +1 enhancement bonus to its critical multiplier and strikes with such magically assisted force that its damage dice are increased as though the weapon were actually a size larger. Blademagic itself is notable for building on the way touch spells integrate a single melee touch into the spell's casting. As an extension of the magical circuit formed by the Blademage when casting, invested weapons may be used to deliver many Blademage spells with a melee strike. This allows spells like Lightning Slash to deal 5d6 electricity damage upon striking an enemy in addition to the weapon's normal damage, all as a single standard Cast a Spell action. Higher level spells use this same method to deliver area effects, in lieu of an enemy, many Blademages will strike the ground or a building to unleash such spells, directing the area towards foes further away than they could normally reach. Blademages present a new take on crossing the martial with the arcane, on that has an independent style from either. The options available with multiclassing and inherently magical races are quite numerous, and the class stands on its own strengths for a full 20 level progression. |
